UP House CGI Video

Project Overview

This personal CGI project was inspired by my love for the animated masterpiece Up. I’ve always been fascinated by the film’s color theory, art direction, and emotional storytelling. One day, while watching it with my kids, I had a spontaneous idea:
“What if the iconic Up house flew into a real-world city?”
That very moment sparked the beginning of this idea. I searched for a suitable base video and started building the entire sequence to bring that dreamlike collision between fantasy and reality to life.
The result is a scene where the famous flying house appears among real skyscrapers, filled with charm, chaos, and cinematic flair.

Project Execution

I began by carefully finding the original footage and performed precise motion tracking using Blender. I then modeled the Up house in detail, applying custom textures and materials that faithfully recreate the film’s visual style.
Using Geometry Nodes, I generated hundreds of stylized balloons in a smart, performance-optimized way. I then built a dynamic simulation where the house collides with buildings, and the balloons burst and scatter realistically.
After lighting and rendering, I took the project into After Effects for compositing, adding glass shatters, wood break effects, and detailed visual FX to enhance realism. Finally, I added carefully selected sound design to tie the experience together.
This was a labor of love—and I hope it makes you smile as much as it did me while creating it.
